What Happens If I'm Not Happy with a Carer?

๐Ÿ“… 12 February 2026 ๐Ÿ• 4 min read

It is entirely reasonable to expect that you will be happy with the carer who comes into your home. If, for any reason, the relationship is not working, you have every right to raise your concerns and request a change.

Common reasons for wanting to change a carer include personality clashes, communication difficulties, differing expectations about how tasks should be carried out, or simply not feeling comfortable. None of these reasons are trivial โ€” the care relationship is intimate and personal, and it needs to feel right.

A good home care agency will have a clear, straightforward process for handling such situations. This should involve a conversation with your care manager to understand what is not working, followed by prompt action to find a more suitable carer. There should be no pressure to continue with a carer you are unhappy with, and no penalty for requesting a change.

If your concern is about the quality or safety of care โ€” for example, if you believe a carer has been negligent, unprofessional, or has breached trust โ€” this should be treated as a formal complaint and investigated thoroughly. All CQC-registered providers are required to have a complaints procedure.

At GoCarely, we actively encourage feedback and make it easy to raise concerns. Our care managers maintain regular contact with families and proactively check that the carer relationship is working well. If a change is needed, we handle it sensitively and swiftly, ensuring continuity of care throughout the transition.
